PICTURES: Chelsea hot-stepping in Wednesday training but Fàbregas still missing

Preparations begin for Bournemouth’s visit to Stamford Bridge on Saturday

After the customary day off following Sunday’s clash at Newcastle, Chelsea returned to training Tuesday afternoon, then followed that up with a double session yesterday.

The pictures at the top are from one of the Wednesday sessions, which featured all the first-team players bar a certain Cesc Fàbregas, who’s continued to train off on his own as he bids to recover from his “near-knee” mystery injury. It was supposed to be a minor ailment, but it’s now kept him out from almost a month. Hopefully the international break will give him a chance to properly rest it up — Sarri has been able to utilize a select set of players in the first few games of the season, but the schedule will get markedly more busy after the break.

Eagle-eyed readers will spot a mess of hair belonging to Ethan Ampadu in one of the photos as well. He and Hudson-Odoi were back with the first-team after training with (and playing for) the Development Squad last week.

Chelsea play on Saturday at the traditional 3pm kick-off time, with AFC Bournemouth coming to the Bridge for what should be an excellent opportunity to continue the perfect start to the season. So far it’s three wins from three, and that’s certainly nothing to scoff at — especially as the team’s implementation of Sarri-ball remains very much a work in progress.
