Batshuayi begins Valencia adventure, says hello to Diego Costa

Michy Batshuayi played 15 minutes against Diego Costa’s Atlético Madrid on Monday night

Chelsea’s title-winning strikers from 2016-17 reunited on a muggy night in Valencia yesterday as the Spanish La Liga season finished its first round of matches with a clash of top four hopefuls at the Mestalla.

Michy Batshuayi, on loan at Valencia for the season, made his league and club debut with a 15-minute substitute appearance off the bench — see the highlights (sort of), above — while for visiting Atlético Madrid, human force of nature Diego Costa completed the full 90 minutes just a handful of days after scoring a brace againt Real Madrid in the UEFA Super Cup, which Atléti ended up winning in extra-time, 4-2. There was to be no winner on Monday night however, as the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw, with Rodrigo’s second-half strike cancelling out Ángel Correa’s opener for the visitors.

Actually, there was a winner: us, thanks to this picture from Michy Batshuayi. (It looks like Costa’s taking the picture, but Michy posted it.)

Good luck to both of them this season!
