Everybody loves Michy Batshuayi, except the Sevilla president

Michy Batshuayi has a knack for making himself the center of attention. The engaging, likeable young man with a strong social media game and an eye for a goal has made friends everywhere he’s gone, from Brussels to Liège to Marseille to London to Dortmund, and now, Valencia.

Everybody loves Michy Batshuayi.

Well, except Sevilla chairman Pepe Castro, who just can’t fathom while Michy chose Valencia (and Champions League football) instead of his team (and Europa League football).

“He wants to play in the Champions League. He’s going to play like four games. In Sevilla he would play 30 Europa League games and even score goals.”

First of all, Sevilla will play at most 21 Europa League games, 3 of which have already been played. Second of all, everybody prefers the Champions League. And Valencia may even end up back in the Europa League anyway if the do badly. Combined with a non-salty chairman and a bat for a logo, Michy’s choice was obvious.

And so he responded to Castro’s comments in classic style.

“There were plenty of clubs who wanted to sign me but after talking to Marcelino, a bond was generated and he convinced me to sign. This is a strong team who play in the Champions League and fight against the best, but what convinced me most was my conversation with the coach.

“I’ve come here to play for a Valencia side who want to play more than four games in the Champions League. My wish is to win a title with Valencia this season.”

And that’s why everybody loves Michy Batshuayi.
