First half goals from midfielders Kanté (!) and Jorginho were more than enough for Chelsea to see this through, with Jorginho’s penalty just before the half completely destroying Huddersfield’s chutzpah until late in the second half.
Ironically, Chelsea played better in the second half than the first, but could only add one more goal — but what a lovely goal it was, with Hazard knifing through the poor Terriers and Pedro finishing it off with aplomb!
Chelsea far from a finished product, but played well enough, which didn’t have to be very good at all, for the easy win.
Perfect start to the Sarri-ball era.
Carefree.
- Kepa makes his debut and gets a clean sheet! Kovačić not even on the bench due to lack of match fitness.
- Back four the same as seen for most of preseason, with Azpilicueta & Alonso on the edges and David Luiz and Rüdiger in the center
- Kanté starts alongside Jorginho and Barkley in midfield. Fàbregas not even on the bench (injury?). RLC first off the bench, replacing Barkley.
- Willian-Morata-Pedro the front three. Hazard for Willian for the final 15. Moses the last sub for Pedro for the final 10.
- Next up: Arsenal on Saturday. They will not be this easy.
