Thibaut Courtois, Eden Hazard win individual awards at the 2018 World Cup

Courtois wins Golden Glove, Hazard wins Silver Ball at 2018 World Cup

The 2018 World Cup is now officially over after France beat Croatia 4-2 in the final. It was a monthlong celebration of fun football, unexpected results, and an overall better tournament than just about anybody had been expecting.

One of the less surprising things was the good showing from Belgium’s Golden Generation, who may not have won it all, but finished third, which is their nation’s best showing ever. In addition to those bronze medals, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois get to take individual awards home as well.

The Belgium Captain was named the second best player at the tournament, winning the Silver Ball. Croatia’s Luka Modrić collected the Golden Ball, while Antoine Griezmann finished third (Bronze Ball?).

Meanwhile, Hazard’s teammate both at national and (still) at club level, Thibaut Courtois was named the best goalkeeper in the tournament, winning the Golden Glove.

Other award winners included Harry Kane (Golden Boot with 6 goals), Kylian Mbappé (Best Young Player), and the Spanish national team (Fair Play Award, the concept on which that is based is a load of nonsense if we learned anything in this World Cup, but whatever).

Congrats to all, and especially Hazard and Courtois. Now, sign the contracts!
