The first game of the 2018-19 season is less than a month away, and as of this moment, Chelsea have not made any first-team signings nor have we settled the head coaching situation. Regardless of the outcome of the latter, the former must not continue for much longer, lest we risk falling even further behind the rest of the Premier League’s top six.
Fortunately, the rumor mill is starting to whirr into serious action, especially with regards to Chelsea’s pursuit of Jorginho. The Napoli midfielder looked set for Manchester City for much of the summer, but Chelsea seem to have successfully gazumped the champions for the midfielder’s €65m signature and the 26-year-old is expected to arrive today at Cobham today, with an announcement to follow soon after.
Having gazumped our rivals, Chelsea must ensure they don’t do the same back to us. That has become even more imperative as Chelsea’s previous top midfield target has just joined neighbors Fulham instead. Alongside teammate Maxime Le Marchad, Jean Michaël Seri signed a (4+1)-year deal with the Premier League returnees today.
I’m delighted to announce that @FulhamFC has signed midfielder Jean-Michael Seri from Nice. He’s been at the very top of our target list for a long time. This is a big day for Fulham. We’re ecstatic that Jean-Michael is joining our squad as we return home to the @premierleague! pic.twitter.com/YdHRd6olzl

Missing out on Seri is not great, but if we sign Jorginho, then it becomes a missed opportunity (especially at the rumored €20m) rather than a failed requirement of midfield reinforcement.
So let’s get it done.
