France await the winners of today’s second semifinal between Croatia and England.
The last time England made it this far, Croatia hadn’t even existed as an independent nation. The Three Lions had experienced plenty of heartbreak in the 28 years since. They will be hoping to reach the final for just the second time in history, 52 years after 1966.
Croatia have been in the semifinals more recently than England, reaching it in 1998 in their first ever World Cup as an independent nation. They lost to eventual winners France then, but did beat the Netherlands in the third place game.
Belgium await the losers in that game on Saturday. Who will contest the final for ultimate glory?
Here we go.
