Marquee matchups don’t come much stronger at this moment than France vs. Belgium, pre-tournament favorite vs. pre-tournament favorite, neighbor vs. neighbor, teammate vs. teammate, Kanté vs. Hazard, Giroud vs. Courtois ... oh my!
Belgium have now matched their best ever performance at the World Cup and are guaranteed at least a fourth place finish like in 1986. Captain Eden Hazard & Co of course want more, believing it is their year. This is their time, for the Golden Generation to shine.
For France, this is semifinal number five, after 1958, 1982, 1986 (where they beat Belgium in the third place match), 1998, and 2006. The last two times they were here, they went to the final, winning it once (the famous ‘98 squad). They’re hoping to accomplish that once again with the most balanced squad in the tournament.
This could be an all-time classic. Here we go.
