Chelsea fitness coach to join Lampard and Morris at Derby County

Fitness coach Chris Jones set to leave Chelsea after 12 years

New Derby County manager Frank Lampard is expected to dip into the well of a loanee talent at Chelsea Football Club, but so far, he’s only dipped into the plethora of coaching talent available at Cobham.

Former teammate and now former U18 head coach Jody Morris already joined to become assistant manager and on Wednesday, fitness coach Chris Jones is bout to follow, too, to become the Rams’ “Head of Performance”.

Jones, a former England U18 youth international, had been with Chelsea since 2006, and has served as head first-team fitness coach since 2012, when he replaced Jose Mario Rocha, who was sacked alongside Andre Villas-Boas. Jones stayed in the role even as Jose Mourinho returned (along with Rui Faria) and even as Antonio Conte brought in his cadre of fitness and nutrition gurus. Jones has undoubtedly acquired invaluable experience working alongside all those experts, which he will now put to great use at Derby.

Derby’s preseason begins on Friday, so Jones’s move should be made officially official shortly. We wish him and SuperFrank and the Morris kid all the best of luck!
