Borussia Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc basically confirmed in an interview with kicker magazine that the mystery striker they are trying to sign to replace Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang will not be Michy Batshuayi.
While this decision was only rumored a couple days ago, with BVB apparently put off by Chelsea’s €40m valuation and their own surprisingly low assessment of Batshuayi’s time on loan at their club, Zorc’s interview more or less puts an end to that narrative for good.
"Für die Suche nach Mister X, der nicht Michy Batshuayi heißen wird, wie für Diallo gilt im Moment: "Es gibt nichts, was heute, morgen oder übermorgen zu vermelden wäre." [kicker] #bvb— LaliPuna (@DasDoHD) June 20, 2018
“There is nothing to be reported today, tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.” says Zorc about the club’s search for “Mister X who will not be Michy Batshuayi” (as well as center back Abdou Diallo). (NB.: This article is not yet online at kicker.de, so there’s a chance there is mitigating context to this quote.)
Things can of course always change, but these days, Borussia Dortmund are more closely linked with Álvaro Morata than Michy Batshuayi which is rather funny if you think about it. BVB have also recently been linked with Moussa Dembele of Celtic, whose young talents would certainly fit the profile of their usual signings (and whose price has dropped from last summer’s €40m to €25m).
Borussia Dortmund are exploring other striker options. Michy Batshuayi, who had a good loan spell, isn’t their priority anymore. Even Alvaro Morata’s name is mentioned in Germany. #cfc #worldcup #bel pic.twitter.com/oLB5TUMZPV— Kristof Terreur (@HLNinEngeland) June 21, 2018
Could Chelsea keep and keep happy all three of Morata, Batshuayi, and Giroud (and others like Tammy Abraham)? That may be one or two too any bodies for one position...
