90+5min: FULL TIME. Uruguay win.
90min: 5 minutes added on.
89min: Egypt give away another dangerous free kick and this time Uruguay make them pay. Gimenez gets up highest. Anguish for Egypt.
88min: Future Arsenal player Lucas Torreira on for Uruguay as Egypt give away a dangerous free kick. And Cavani hits the post!
83min: Cavani’s tremendous shot out of nowhere is parried by the excellent El-Shenawy.
82min: Ramadan Sobhi is Egypt’s final change. No Salah today. Warda makes way.
79min: Egypt with the counter through Kahraba, whose excellent pass is cut out by Cáceres with three waiting to pounce.
72min: Fathy with an em-Fathy-c shot from range but Muslera collects. Suárez then has a chance but delays his shot and El-Shenawy collects at his feet.
70min: Cavani has a half chance from a corner, but his shot on the turn is blocked by a sea of bodies.
63min: Second change for Egypt as the quick Kahraba replaces the slower target man-type in Mohsen.
58min: Uruguay make a change: Carlos Sanchez and Cristian Rodrigues on for Nandez and De Arrascaeta.
55min: Egypt holding the ball well, but attacks continue to break down in the final third. Uruguay letting them play in midfield for now. Then it’s Uruguay’s turn to be ineffective.
50min: Tarek Hamed unable to continue after picking up another knock. Morsy replaces him.
46min: No changes at half-time, but El-Shenawy is called straight into action to deny Suárez on the doorstep for Uruguay.
45+1min: Kuipers blows the half-time whistle as the two sides trade half-chances in the one minute of added-on time. Egypt’s midfield dynamo Tarek Hamed ends the half on the turf, clutching his back. Uruguay don’t look like conceding anytime soon, but they don’t seem to have matching quality further forward. Egypt have looked good in spells but have not truly threatened Muslera.
43min: Egypt’s chance on the counter after a spell of Uruguay possession, but the cross is miscontrolled.
38min: Godín, who’s been an absolute rock at the back, ventures forward and finds a teammate breaking into the box, but his touch is long, adding to Godín’s frustrations.
36min: Neither team looking like they have the requisite quality in the final third to break the deadlock at the moment.
29min: Egypt re-assert a semblance of control but it’s Vecino who takes aim for Uruguay, well wide from a long way out.
24min: Suarez misses the open net as a corner bounces to him at the far post!
22min: Uruguay starting exert a bit more control. Egypt resorting to a few too many hopeful long balls forward, which, without Salah’s pace shouldn’t trouble Godin & Co.
16min: Warda wins a free kick in decent position, but Uruguay, after a bout of head tennis, clear.
11min: Trézéguet with Egypt’s first effort, but it’s a weak one off of a tough turn and is collected without issue.
8min: First shot of the match goes to Cavani, with a long-range daisy-cutter that’s saved easily.
5min: Willing start, especially from Egypt, who’ve controlled possession and the flow of the game so far. Uruguay looking to play on the counter.
KICK-OFF: And we’re off, with Salah on the bench.
The second match of the World Cup, and the second match of Group A features two superstars of the world game, Mohamed Salah of Egypt and Luis Suarez of Uruguay.
There had been major concerns over Salah’s fitness after the shoulder injury he suffered in the Champions League final, but he’s been passed fit and hopefully will be no worse for the wear. Egypt’s hopes completely depend on him.
He does not start however. Egypt’s fate probably will be decided by their games against Russia and Saudi Arabia after all.
Uruguay are the group favorites and should be winning this.
