Out of nowhere, the official Chelsea website has today announced that their new stadium project is to be put on ice for the foreseeable future, explicitly stating that there is “no time frame” set in regard to when they intend to continue working on it. The official reasoning for the decision is the “current unfavourable investment climate”, according to the club.

As a reminder, Chelsea had fought a lengthy and tedious legal battle to path the way to finally start construction after assembling the last part of the puzzle in the settlement regarding the light issue holding up stadium development back in March.
The question everyone is asking themselves now is rather obvious: what does this mean for Chelsea's summer plans in the transfer window? While the actual specific reasons behind the indefinite postponing of the stadium plans might take awhile to be fully revealed, the hope of investment into a long overdue overhaul of the current squad has of course flared up.
Needless to say, Chelsea did quite an astonishing job in keeping this from the entire media landscape and we can only hope that this is the lone bit of negative news we hear today from the club.
