A rapid turn of events.

After days of relentless speculation, a last second cameo by Zenit to try and capture Sarri’s services, it seems that this saga may finally be coming to an end. WHEW! That’s of course, if you’re ready to believe an ambiguous tweet by Napoli’s president and madman, Aurelio De Laurentiis.

If you’re like us and don’t understand Italian, here’s a translation:

I would like to thank Maurizio Sarri for his valuable contribution to Napoli, which has made it possible to bring prestige and joy to this city and to the blue fans all over the world, while also creating a model of play admired everywhere and by anyone. Well done, Maurizio.

Now, in true silly season way, let’s dissect this. Quoting the famous line from the movie, Inception: “We need to go deeper.”

On the surface, this surely looks like the final nail in the coffin, especially when you consider all the news regarding Carlo Ancelotti being set to take over at Napoli. However, on the other hand, it could just as easily be an end of the season appreciation message. Who knows. Silly season works in mysterious ways and we, mere mortals, can never truly understand it.

Stay tuned for more drama...
