What a day, what a game, what a start to the weekend!
In the end, the result may matter more for Southampton (who remain on course for relegation) than Chelsea (who remain on course to finish fifth and out of the Champions League places), but a win’s a win, especially in such a thrilling fashion.
Chelsea looked down and out and beaten and battered and uninspired when Premier League debutant Jan Bednarek doubled Southampton’s lead at the hour mark. But a double subsitution with Pedro and Giroud coming on, a formation change to four at the back, and suddenly Chelsea looked willing and capable and full of intent.
Two from Giroud, sandwiching a long overdue one from Hazard, all in the space of 10 minutes turned the tie on its head, before Chelsea saw out the remaining 10 minutes without too much trouble.
A modicum of happiness!
Not getting sacked today!
Unfortunately I have prior commitments once again (taking the dog to play in the snow!), so this will be delayed until tomorrow, I think.
