Not much to be happy about at Chelsea these days, with results on the pitch matching Conte’s moods, the players’ attitudes, and the discontent in and around the club and fanbase. Fortunately, we have the youth teams as well as the Chelsea Ladies to rely on for some happy football content, and so understandably, they dominate this week’s Chelsea:Unseen.
There is a bit of first-team action, from before the Watford loss, with Ethan Ampadu scoring a rather nice goal, but it’s the U-18s and Ladies training that makes for more interesting viewing.
The goalkeeper drills for the youth look quite fun — is that Christophe Lollichon there? — while the rest of the team gets to work on shooting drills with none other than Chelsea’s all-time leading goalscorer, Frank Lampard. Lampard was apparently back with the club this week as he continues to work on his coaching badges. No rush, Super Frank, that coaching or managerial seat will undoubtedly be waiting for you if and when you’re ready.
Meanwhile, the Ladies do a bit of boxing, with Fran Kirby especially looking up for the challenge of pummeling some things. The Ladies were certainly up for the fight against Manchester City last week before putting 10 (ten!) past London Bees in the FA Women’s Cup. Emma Hayes’s charges will take on Birmingham City in WSL play this weekend.
