Victor Moses named Nigerian Player of the Year

Well deserved.

Chelsea winger-turned-wingback Victor Moses has been named Nigerian Player of the Year by the Nigerian Football Federation on Monday in the inaugural edition of their annual awards.

Moses was named Footballer of the Year at the Nigerian Sports Awards back in November, but apparently the Football Federation themselves did not have any official awards until now. So congrats to the Chelsea man for making history in classic Chelsea style!

The 27-year-old was also nominated for the African Player of the Year for last season’s efforts, but lost out to Mohamed Salah’s goal-rich boots at Liverpool. Still, nice to see Moses get some individual recognition for what was an unexpected, transformative, and impressive season as Chelsea won an unlikely Premier League title in Conte’s first season in charge.

Things haven’t quite gone according to the same script this season, but all that could be forgotten with a stellar performance tonight against Barcelona, which has a much better chance of happening if Moses can bring his ‘A’-game to the proceedings. He did get a on the scoresheet in his last game, and has looked more like his usual self lately, perhaps finally putting the effects of the early season hamstring injury behind him

Congrats, Victor! Well deserved.
