Pedro Rodríguez may not be the first name one thinks of when talking about the great Barcelona teams of the last decade, but with over 300 appearances to his name for the Catalan giants (and just 1 shy of 100 goals), the Tenerife-born little man had played a crucial alongside all the illustrious names, acquiring the status of their “lucky charm” before making the brave decision to look for a new challenge with Chelsea in 2015.
Like fellow Barcelona graduate Cesc Fàbregas, Pedro has added a Premier League title to his collection since joining Chelsea, but Tuesday’s game against the Blaugrana will be just as special as any of those accomplishments.
”It will be strange for sure at the start but it will be good to see my old team-mates again who I played with for so many years. It will be a special game for me for sure. They are the same every year. They are playing great football in La Liga, they are in the cup final as well.”
Needless to say, the players’ professionalism will dictate that any such friendliness end as soon as the referee’s whistle blows. They may be friends before and after, but there will be no love lost for those 90 minutes.
For Pedro, although he may not start, the emphasis will be on Chelsea continuing the improving form shown in the last couple games.
”We are back in a good form, with confidence before this huge game as you say against Barcelona. For us it is good to be back in that sort of form. We’ve had two very good games now. We have to continue like this and prepare for the game against Barcelona in the same way. “
