The biggest test of the season is ahead, which is concerning since Sarri’s Chelsea failed two of the most recent tests — one big, one small — and we now have to try to nick off points from the defending champions, who are looking to one-up even last season’s all-conquering team.
Since no one realistically expects the Blues to do much against the well-oiled machine of Pep Guardiola (case in point: their 2-0 win in the Community Shield against Chelsea’s backups), Chelsea have little to lose and a lot to gain. That sort of freedom can sometimes grant a bit of extra motivation, not that there should be any issues with mentality in this one.
In any case, Ross Barkley still seems to be dealing with some sort of ankle injury, so he may miss yet another match. Victor Moses is also injured, but he remains irrelevant. Elsewhere, rotation should be expected, with nothing but the firstest first-team will do.
Who might those be? Choose wisely.
