1. RUBEN LOFTUS-CHEEK (6.7)
Minutes: 90
Touches: 79
Passes: 58/65
Shots: 1*/1
Take-ons: 3/3
Aerial duels: 4
Tackles+INTs: 3+3
Sure, he got a bit lucky with his goal, but his physical presence in attack is something that no other midfielder can bring to the table. And as Michael Scott once said, “You miss 100 per cent of the shots you don’t take — Wayne Gretzky”.
2. CESC FÀBREGAS (5.4)
Minutes: 90
Touches: 85
Passes: 64/75
Shots: 0/1
Tackles+INTs+Blocks: 3+1+1
If you listened to me on the latest episode of London is Blue Podcast, you’ll know that I was not a huge fan of Cesc in this game. Wolves were too good for us to get away with playing not-quite-Jorginho in the Jorginho role — and any advantage from his long passing (especially in David Luiz’s absence) was negated by poor touches from Willian and Pedro and Morata’s disappearing act.
3. N’GOLO KANTÉ (5.3)
Minutes: 75
Touches: 68
Passes: 48/54
Shots: 0/1
Take-ons: 2/3
Tackles: 1
Clearances: 2
It’s a bit strange to see three midfielders up on the podium on a day when we routinely vacated the center of the pitch to gift space and momentum to our opponents, but, really, beyond just the Loftus-Cheek vote, this is purely an academic exercise.
