Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s status and future at Chelsea has been an ongoing point of concern for some time, but it looks like the tide might actually be turning in our favor.
Since his historic hat-trick against BATE Borisov in the Europa League in October, the 22-year-old has made a strong case for more minutes. He’s even got himself two Premier League goals, the last of which sealing the 2-0 win over Fulham on Sunday, despite playing only 117 minutes in the competition so far across four substitute appearances.
Not even Maurizio Sarri can ignore this for much longer, right?
“He played the Europa League and cup. He played 5, 6 matches (note: actually four) in the league, without starting, I think. He is important.”
“He has to understand what I want, he is improving. Last two matches, I was really happy with him. I want him to stay with me and us. So I think that there’s no chance [of a January move].”

Loftus-Cheek himself talked about the tactical improvements he’s made to his game after the weekend’s win, so he’s on the same page as the head coach in that regard. Whether he’ll agree to stay in such certain terms as Sarri’s proclaiming here remains to be seen, but the intentions at least look to be in the right place.
There would be no shortage of suitors for Ruben should he decide to look for more minutes elsewhere, but hopefully we’re now on the right track to secure his future at Chelsea instead.
