After wins against Liverpool (big game for the opening round!), Derby County (Frank Lampard returns as manager!), and AFC Bournemouth (rematch of last year), Chelsea get another narrative-filled occasion in the semifinals of the League Cup (Carabao Cup).
Chelsea will face rivals Tottenham Hotspur for a chance to advance to the Wembley final against, presumably, Manchester City, who strike lucky with third division Burton Albion as their semifinal opponent.

The two-legged semifinal, home and away, will take place in January, with the first leg played either on January 8 (Tuesday) or January 9 (Wednesday) at ... wherever Spurs will be playing their home games by then ... and the second leg following a fortnight on, either January 22 or 23 at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea fell at this stage last season to Arsenal in a highly disappointing matchup that began the spring of Antonio Conte’s discontent. Let’s do better this time, shall we?
