Community player ratings from Chelsea’s highest rated performance of the season

1. DAVID LUIZ (9.0)

Minutes: 90
Touches: 66
Passes: 42/49
Shots: 1*/1
Fouls drawn: 2
Tackles+INTs+Blocks: 2+1+2
Aerial duels won: 5
Clerances: 7

Chelsea have followed up their three worst rated matches with three of the highest rated ones, and that’s a decent enough pattern of responding well to bad situations. Ideally, we wouldn’t have games such as the Community Shield or the Spurs or Wolves losses, but at least we’ve now followed them up with 3-0 (Huddersfield, away), 4-0 (PAOK, home), and 2-0 victories.

There were lots of impressive performances in this most impressive win, but David Luiz has emerged as the consensus top dog, and was named BT Sport’s Man of the Match as well. Last time he was our Man of the Match was almost two years ago, when he scored that free kick goal in the 1-1 draw against Liverpool — this performance was just as effective in attack and even more impressive in defense.

2. N’GOLO KANTÉ (8.9)

Minutes: 90
Touches: 60
Passes: 27/37
Shots: 1*/1
Take-ons: 1/3
Tackles+INTs+Blocks: 2+1+2
Clearances: 3

One does often wonder where we’d be without N’Golo Kanté signing with the club in 2016. His (re-)transformation into a box-to-box midfielder, like he once was back in France, continues apace.

3. CÉSAR AZPILICUETA (8.8)

Minutes: 90
Touches: 96
Passes: 46/54
Tackles+INTs+Blocks: 17+5+4
Aerial duels won: 2

One does often wonder where we’d be without Vice-captain Azpi signing with the club in 2012. Right back, left back, center back, now right back again, Gandalf the DAVE said thou shall not pass, and thus none passed. A grand performance to celebrate his 300th appearance for the club!
