Following reports earlier this week that a new contract for N’Golo Kanté was “imminent”, Chelsea have announced today that our reigning Player of the Year has indeed put pen to paper on a new long-term contract, signing up for a further five years through the end of the 2022-23 season, and reportedly doubling his weekly salary in the process to a Chelsea record £300k per week.
Worth every penny.
Oh happy day!
We have some great news…

✍️ @nglkante has signed a new contract!#Kante2023https://t.co/FTN6Uy2vmB
Kanté was halfway through the original five-year deal he signed with Antonio Conte’s Chelsea in 2016, when the Blues scored a major coup in signing the best midfielder in the Premier League despite finishing the season in just 10th place. Kanté willingly gave up Champions League football with Premier League champions Leicester City and rejected interested from none other than José Mourinho as well.
That decision has paid massive dividends since, with the 27-year-old midfield force of nature adding another Premier League title, an FA Cup, a World Cup win with France, a Premier League Player of the Year award and an 8th place finish in the Ballon d’Or to his personal trophy cabinet. (And still he drives around in his beat-up Mini, probably!)
“We are delighted N’Golo has signed a new contract and sees his long-term future with Chelsea. When he arrived, we knew we had signed a special player but he has astounded everybody with his tireless and unselfish displays.
“Off the pitch, he remains a dedicated professional and a humble human being despite the fact he is a world champion and a two-time Premier League winner. We now look forward to five more years with N’Golo at the heart of the Chelsea midfield.”

Here’s to many more trophies, awards, wins, smiles, and all the adorable Kanté-things!
“I’m happy to extend my time with Chelsea, it has been two beautiful years and I wish for more to come. Since I came, I completely improved as a player, challenged myself and got some awards I never thought about. I like the city, I like the club and I am happy to be here for more time.”
