The rest and relaxation of the international break is over, as proper football returns this weekend. For Chelsea, that means probably the toughest competitive test of the season so far, Spurs away at Wembley.
Our North London rivals are just one point behind us as we enter the busy winter period, and they will certainly fancy their chances of collecting all three points just as they have done in two of the last four home games they’ve had against Chelsea. Add in last spring’s shocking 3-1 win at the Bridge, and Spurs will surely feel as if they’ve broken a bit of the mystique the Blues have held over them for basically the entire history of the Premier League.
Spurs are dealing with a couple fitness issues (including most notably Erik Lamela), while Chelsea got Mateo Kovačić and Ethan Ampadu back from international duty with minor concerns in tow as well. Ampadu is unlikely to play, to say the least, but Kovačić would surely be in contention to start, if he can overcome his “little leg muscle” injury.
