Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud has scored in a slightly different way than he’s used to — or not so used to, as his recent goal drought would indicate — landing a job that’s quite a bit different from his usual tasks as a professional footballer.
Giroud will voice the well-known Marvel antagonist Norman Osborn a.k.a. “Green Goblin” in the French version of the new animated Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, and the role arguably fits like an evil glove.
Je suis très heureux de vous annoncer que je prêterai ma voix au Green goblin dans le film #SpiderManNewGeneration, le 12 décembre au cinéma !@SonyPicturesFr pic.twitter.com/rlWxb96A3u

Joined by fellow footballer Presnel Kimpembe, from Paris Saint-Germain, this is a pretty sweet PR and publicity move by Sony, though presumably the two fan favorites from France’s World Cup-winning squad can also do adequate enough voice acting to not ruin the movie. If only Sony could somehow leverage Giroud’s magnificent beard, too!
The film is scheduled to be released on December 12 and is titled “Spider-Man: New Generation” in France (instead of “Into the Spider-Verse”), meaning that we won’t have to wait too long until Chelsea’s No.9 can be heard on the big screen. Has Olivier Giroud found his true post-career calling? Stay tuned!
