We’re just barely past the quarter-mark of the season, but the big business of football kits never takes a day off. Nike, adidas, and all the rest are hard(?) at work on next year’s designs already, however simple or not simple they may be.
For Nike and Chelsea, the design will apparently strike a balance between simple and not simple, so something in-between Nike’s beautiful and straightforward effort the first year of their contract (2017-18) and this year’s overdesigned mess with the random short horizontal red and white stripes.
That’s the information from the usually reliable Footy Headlines — it came out last week but we had missed it — who add that there will be red accents on the sleeves, possibly on the trim, similar to a lot of other Nike kits coming out for next season. But otherwise, it sounds like the shirt is set to be plain blue (“rush blue”), which, if you ask me, is how the home shirt should be.

Meanwhile, a new set of training and “lifestyle” shirts and jackets is set to drop in the new year, featuring the current designs in slightly different colors. Nike definitely keeping those nice and simple with plain blues and whites.
