It’s officially official. Chelsea have a new target striker as the club announced the signing of Olivier Giroud from Arsenal on deadline day. The French international with over 70 Premier League goals to his name has signed an 18-month contract at Stamford Bridge upon his arrival and has been given the No. 18 shirt to match it.
According to transfermarkt.com, this will be the first time in his club career that Giroud will don the No. 18. For Arsenal, he wore the No. 12 shirt throughout his five-plus seasons at the club. Before his arrival in England, he wore No. 17 for Montpellier and No. 12 for Tours. On the international stage, he has frequently worn the traditional No. 9 for France.
Giroud joins an interesting group of players to wear the No. 18 for Chelsea that include Loic Remy, Romelu Lukaku, Wayne Bridge and Ricardo Quaresma.
