The January transfer window SLAMS shuts — it always SLAMS shut; it is known — at 11pm GMT on Wednesday, January 31.
Chelsea’s match against AFC Bournemouth kicks off a little over three hours before that, at 7:45pm. By the time the referee’s final whistle blows, there will be less than 90 minutes left to get any last-minute moves over the line.
Basically, if Michy Batshuayi is to complete a move somewhere (Borussia Dortmund? Sevilla?), he cannot play in this game. Meanwhile, Álvaro Morata is still nursing a back injury. So who does that leave, Eden Hazard as a pseudo-center forward once again?
Or could Chelsea get a new signing in before the registration deadline for the match? New players have to be registered by midday (noon) at the latest the day before a match in order to be eligible, so Chelsea have a little over 3 hours from now to sneak an Olivier Giroud or whoever in.
Chances are, that’s not happening.
So as you make your picks below, keep in mind that there’s a decent chance that Batshuayi will not be available.
Also unavailable are Willian (hamstring) and David Luiz (ankle). Thibaut Courtois should be back, and Cesc Fàbregas, too.
