Azpilicueta vows Chelsea will do better in FA Cup after League Cup disappointment

Oh Captain, my captain!

Chelsea chose a rather annoying time to finally lose a match in which César Azpilicueta started as captain, as the Blues crashed out of the League Cup in the second-to-last stage with Wednesday’s 2-1 loss at the Emirates. Neither Azpilicueta nor the rest of the defenders were truly at fault for either one of Arsenal’s two lucky goals, but that didn’t lessen the palpable disappointment felt across all of Chelsea nation.

“This was a big chance to get to Wembley after the disappointment against Arsenal in the FA Cup and Community Shield. We were looking forward to going back but we couldn’t make it. We have to keep working hard to do it [in the FA Cup].”

With Chelsea thus out of the League Cup and essentially out the one-team title-race in the league, the FA Cup represents the best remaining option to avoid a trophy-less season.

The Blues barely scraped by Norwich in the third round, but hopefully won’t have any such issues in the fourth round against Newcastle this Sunday. If Azpi has his way, we certainly will not.

“After defeat you need to bounce back and show the answer from the team in the next game. We have to look forward. We must get a win for our confidence. We are disappointed and it hurts. We can do better. On Sunday we have another chance in the FA Cup to get closer to that trophy.”

So say we all.
