Chelsea have one of the best, if not the best football academy in all of England, and as such, the amount of quality youth prospects who pass through its doors are seemingly never-ending — even if they don’t make it with the first-team itself, the vast majority of them will be set for a good professional career, and that ensures that the Academy remains an attractive destination for future prospects.
Next up in the production line of extra hype is 17-year-old Callum Hudson-Odoi, a first-year scholar who burst onto the scene last year as schoolboy, when he scored 8 times in 25 games and helped Chelsea to yet another FA Youth Cup.
He capped off his season with a spectacular goal in the final against Manchester City (seen around the 6-minute mark of @chelseayouth’s video above), and then started this season by winning the U17 World Cup.
He’s recently become a regular face in Chelsea first-team training and has even made the bench a few times over the holiday period, including at Norwich City over the weekend. Surely, a senior debut is not far off, at which point we’ll once again have to make that ever-important and never easy loan/no-loan decision.
But we’ll have plenty of time to worry about that later. For now, let’s enjoy these highlights — they’re worth a watch even if you’ve seen them before. And if you haven’t, welcome to the hype train. (If nothing else, be sure to watch the video at top from the F2 for a ridiculous bit of control from the youngster at around the 1:30 mark.)
P.S.: Hudson-Odoi has the unique distinction of having his name in two rows across the back. He’s that good!
