Chelsea’s official squad for our return to the UEFA Champions League has been revealed, though there aren’t many surprises in it.

Deadline day signings Danny Drinkwater and Davide Zappacosta are both in the squad (no Papy Djilobodji incident here!), while recently Premier League squad-registered forward Diego Costa is not. Cup-tying Costa for his impending move to Atlético would’ve been a hilarious, though an unlikely (he’s not back with the team) and detrimental (would not help negotiations) event.

Goalkeepers: Willy Caballero, Thibaut Courtois, Eduardo

Defenders: Antonio Rüdiger, Marcos Alonso, Davide Zappacosta, Gary Cahill, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Jake Clarke-Salter

Midfielders: Cesc Fàbregas, Danny Drinkwater, N’Golo Kanté, Eden Hazard, Pedro Rodriguez, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Victor Moses, Kenedy, Charly Musonda, Willian, Kyle Scott

Forwards: Alvaro Morata, Michy Batshuayi

Or, if you’re a visual learner:

One of the primary concerns of Chelsea’s summer transfer business was to improve the squad to be deep enough to compete in the Champions League, Premier League, League Cup, and FA Cup. We will find out soon enough if Chelsea had done enough, but at least the confidence seems to be there.

“This year we have the Champions League as well and it is not easy to succeed in multiple competitions. But we will do our best and we have got depth in our squad so sometimes maybe one or two players can rest so they are 110 per cent for the next competition.”
