Chelsea 0-1 Manchester City, Premier League: Post-match reaction

It went all wrong and Chelsea got it all wrong today, in just about every aspect.

From passes going astray and players straying offside, to Morata picking up an injury and his replacements being useless, to Conte being throughly out-tacticked by sticking to the 3-5-2 against whatever hybrid formation City were operating with, and so on and so forth.

Chelsea were out-shot and out-possessed and out-thought and out-played by a wide margin. As good as we were on Wednesday, this performance was shocking, disappointing, frustrating.

Two weeks to reflect on this horror-show.

  • Two amazing blocks from Rüdiger and Alonso kept the scoreline respectable.
  • 3-5-2 not a good call. Hindsight is 20/20, but I did call it, and that makes me more frustrated.
  • City keep pace with Manchester United, who also won earlier today. Chelsea fall six point behind the two leaders. It’s a long season of course, with 31 games still to go.
  • Next up: international break, then Crystal Palace away on the 14th of October. Palace lost again today; they’ve yet to win a point or score a goal in the first 7 Premier League games of the season.
