An almost perfect evening for Chelsea.

First half goals from Kenedy, Batshuayi, and Musonda set us on our way. Batshuayi got a second for himself early in the second half, then collected a lucky hat-trick when Kenedy’s blast hit the post but rebounded off Michy back into the goal. Chelsea could’ve had more, but we’ll have to settle for just the five. It was one-way traffic all day, even as Conte added more and more youngsters into the mix.

  • Conte made nine changes from Sunday, with Captain Cahill and Cesc Fabregas the only two who were retained. Fabregas was withdrawn just 10 minutes into the second-half but Cahill lasted the whole way.
  • Cesc’s replacement was young Ethan Ampadu, who at 17 years and 6 days old became the 9th youngest for Chelsea. He’s also the first player born in the 2000s to play for the club. Ampadu, slotting into midfield, introduced himself with a bit of a reckless reducer, but he looked cool, calm, and composed otherwise.
  • Appearances for Clarke-Salter (his second ever) as well as Dujon Sterling (his first), too! JCS played on the left side of the back three, with Cahill central (Christensen made way) and Rudiger right. Sterling played ring wing-back.
  • Hazard played the full 90. Surely, he’s now back to full fitness, right?
  • It was almost perfect, save for the silly goal conceded at the end.
  • Next up: back to the Premier League, with Stoke City on Saturday, away
  • Carefree.
