How should Chelsea line up against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup?

Choose wisely.

The games are coming thick and fast and there’s not much time to linger over the disappointment of Sunday. Attentions thus turn to Wednesday night and the start of this season’s League Cup campaign for Chelsea. This thing tends to have a new name almost every time — after last year’s sponsorless EFL Cup edition, this year it’s called the Carabao Cup. Unfortunately we don’t get to skip any rounds or get any bonus goals for sharing a sponsor.

Chelsea will need a lineup that’s strong enough to dispatch a mid-table Championship side but rotated enough to keep the squad fresh for the upcoming slate of three scary games: Stoke City (away, Saturday), Atlético Madrid (away, Wednesday), and Manchester City (home, Saturday). And then it’s another international break, so we can take a breather.

With Danny Drinkwater out until after said break and Pedro likely joining him in the treatment room at least temporarily with the ankle knock he picked up on Sunday, Conte’s options are somewhat reduced. At the moment, starts are expected for Eden Hazard (Conte hint) and Charly Musonda (another Instagram hint), but we’ve been here before only to be proven incorrect.

So, choose wisely.
