Alvaro Morata has been nominated for the Premier League's Player of the Month award after just three matches in the league. The Spaniard is among seven finalists for the first honor of the season thanks to his two goals and two assists in the opening three matches.

Starting the opening nightmare loss to Burnley on the bench, Morata entered the match and nearly spearheaded an unbelievable comeback from 3-0 down with a goal and an assist. Since then he's started both matches, both of which Chelsea has come out victorious. Coincidence? Maybe, maybe not.

His competition for the award is stiff. Manchester United have three nominees after their perfect 3-0 start to the season. Phil Jones, Romelu Lukaku, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan make up their list of possible winners. Liverpool have a pair of candidates in Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jonas Lössl rounds out the competitors for the honor.

Morata's contributions for Chelsea cannot be understated. He's added valuable hold-up play, a nose for goal, and a creative element from the No. 9 spot in Antonio Conte's setup. If he gets beat out for the August award, there's a more than fair chance he'll be in contention again this season.
