The 19-year-old joined Chelsea as an under-12 and played in various positions over the years before finally settling into a right-wing role. Wakefield has winners’ medals from two successful UEFA Youth League and FA Youth Cup campaigns apiece, and was a Development Squad regular last season when fit. He missed parts of last season due to a hamstring problem and is currently injured as well, so he’ll return to full fitness at Cobham first and then link up with Stevenage in the coming weeks.
On a slight tangent, earlier this year Wakefield won the hearts of many Chelsea fans on social media after uploading a picture of his father standing next to a lavish-looking Jaguar car, that had in fact been a 50th birthday gift from son to father.
Here’s hoping he does his father and himself proud even further, out in the world of senior football. Good luck, Charlie!
