Chelsea have been looking to upgrade or at least add depth at wing-back, a highly important position in Conte’s 3-4-3, all summer long. So far, we’ve had no success.
While the club retain a modicum of hope for Alex Sandro, two of the biggest names Chelsea have been linked with at wing-back have now both chosen Manchester City instead. Real Madrid's Danilo joined Manchester City last Sunday and today Benjamin Mendy has the done the same from AS Monaco.
Proud to announce you guys that I've officially joined @ManCity today !! A dream come true to play under Pep's orders #BM22 pic.twitter.com/3X18oIzDmC

Mendy joins City on a rumoured £52 million transfer, breaking his new club’s previous transfer record £50 million for former Tottenham Hotspur right back Kyle Walker. City lost three fullbacks in Pablo Zabaleta, Bacary Sagna and Gael Clichy at the end of last season, and now have replenished their options in the position with newer, better, and certainly much more expensive names.
Interesting to me that Manchester City could spend £130m on full backs in one window & over £350m on defenders in 3 years & nobody notices.

Unlike City at the start of the summer, Chelsea have two very capable wing-backs so the situation isn’t all that dire ... though losing potential signings to rivals isn’t ideal. At the very least, depth is certainly needed, so hopefully the club have a few other targets in mind...
