Within hours of his official signing and announcement, Álvaro Morata was out of his fancy suit and tie and on to the training pitch at Cobham in his Nike training gear and taking part in what the Chelsea website called “a short training session” with fitness coach Constantino Coratti (who apparently has not gone on tour so he can oversee not only Morata’s training but presumably Hazard and Bakayoko’s rehab as well).
That’s the type of dedication and commitment to hard work that is sure to warm even the tiniest of tiny cockles in Antonio Conte’s heart.
“I am so happy to be here. It’s an incredible emotion to be part of this big club. I am looking to work hard, score as many goals as I can and to win as many trophies as possible.”

Morata is now set to fly out and join up with the rest of the team after Saturday’s friendly in Beijing. The next stop for Chelsea will be Singapore with games against Bayern Munich (Tuesday) and Inter Milan (Saturday). We don’t know what number he will be wearing yet — does he dare take the no.9? — but hopefully we’ll get to see him out there for both of those matches.
Here’s to new beginnings and new legends.
