The Diego Costa saga continues to roll on without much getting resolved. We were told he was saying goodbye to teammates in advance of a transfer to Atletico Madrid, then we were told he was going to report for preseason activities at Cobham, then we found out that Chelsea had excused his absence for the first week, the Tour of Asia, and presumably beyond. Meanwhile, Costa’s transfer to Atlético remains more or less a given, as it has been since he was told via text message by Antonio Conte that he was “no longer part of his plans”.
But Costa is still technically a Chelsea player. The Blues have yet to sign a striker to replace him (sorry, Michy!). And as Chelsea’s search rolls on and negotiations with Atlético may or may not be making progress, here’s Diego Costa living the life on the other side of the world. In an Atlético shirt because why not. (He’s back home in Lagarto where half the population is decked out in either Atlético or Chelsea gear.)
The weekend shenanigans did not stop there.
When Cesc Fàbregas jumped on the live stream, Diego told him to “give Conte a hug”. Sure, why not.

So, a partying Diego sends his hugs to Conte. Is he trolling? Is he being serious? Maybe not even he knows the answer.
Either way, this probably isn’t helping the minuscule chance of a possible reconciliation. Which will remain a problem until Chelsea sign a replacement.
