Forgotten Brazilian full back returns to Chelsea after latest loan failure

After failing to make a good impression on loan at Inter Milan, Carpi and Vitesse, Chelsea’s Brazilian right back Wallace decided to take his talents back to his home, signing a one-and-a-half loan deal with Grêmio in January 2016. However, this latest move has turned out to be just another failure for the 23-year-old, and he was let go three days before the end of the loan deal with them.

Wallace's struggles at Grêmio started at the very beginning of his time at the club, as his play was marred by inconsistency even in games against minnows in Rio Grande do Sul's state championship. Fitness issues also took their toll, and the full back ended his first year at the club with only 21 appearance.

However, the last third of Wallace's spell at Grêmio was even worse. Despite a string of starts for the team in the Brasileirão to end 2016 with hopes of turning his fortunes around in the following year, he was instead dropped to Grêmio's B-squad at the beginning of the Brazilian season in late January.

According to reports by the Brazilian media at the time of his transfer to Grêmio, Wallace had renewed his contract with Chelsea for an unknown length, possibly as far out as 2019, which would give him two more years left with the Blues. But since Chelsea appear to be trimming the oversized loan army a bit these days, perhaps Wallace will be sent on his merry way as well.

Or maybe he’s the Brazilian right back we’ve been look for all along? That THAT, Dani Alves!
