During these desolate times of waiting for transfers to be announced, having Chelsea’s social media department is a blessing. Even while all the players are away on international duty or at home on vacation, they are still pumping out that sweet, sweet content.
The latest video series they’ve released features a Chelsea first-team player, a “Master”, teaming with a youth player, or a “Student”, in a competition of crossing and finishing. Each tandem gets 16 chances to score as many chances as possible with both players crossing eight times. The first pairing was Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mason Mount, converting just five of their attempts:

The next duo to give it a go was Willian and Conor Gallagher. They did better, converting half of their attempts. Including a truly audacious backheel finish by the Brazilian (1:24 of the video):

Something about these videos that is quite noticeable is the weather at the training ground. Obviously these were all taped well in advance of the summer break. Asking players to fly to London just to shoot some social videos would be a little absurd, after all. This is social media done right. And while they videos won’t make the club “announce Sandro” any quicker, it certainly helps break up the Chelsea-less void we currently exist in.
