The Daily Hilario: 10 amazing ways to whiten your teeth

Your daily dose of off-topic shenanigans.

SO FRESH AND SO CLEAN CLEAN:

So I was traveling most of yesterday — I literally left my house to start driving just as the refresh and the associated post went live — so instead of addressing the comments in there individually, I'll talk a bit about it here.

First off, I personally had nothing to do with the design.  That part is out of my hands and we'll just make do with whatever we got.  The design itself prioritizes mobile, on which things look very good and seem to be working very fast.  I don't like that you don't get a subheading on the front page under the headlines, but that just means we'll have to work extra hard to put good headlines there.

The desktop experience is a secondary concern, and that is unfortunate (my assumption is that our most loyal readers come directly to the page rather than follow any social/news links), but it is the way of things these days on the net.  Mobile and social media/google links is the future; homepages are a dying art and increasingly useless.  That said, we do have a few new "cover" options (i.e. the featured articles at the top of the page), so we'll have to play around with those and see which ones we can make work best for ourselves.

Redesigns tend to be met with resistance.  This is now the fourth major look to SBN, and there was at least one more revision in there that switched up fonts and whatnot.  But it's the community and the content that's most important, right?  What I'm really hoping is that they fix the real-time comment loading issues one of these days.

Ok, I think that covers most of the concerns.  Thanks!
