When I woke up this morning I didn’t envision writing a post about Chelsea players racing drones around the Cobham training ground, but here we are. Admittedly, it’s very nice that the team’s social media presence has improved over the past year. They (and their sponsors) keep coming up with new and fun content that remains interesting to cover. It’s a breath of fresh air from the normal stuff you see from most clubs.
However, this one is a bit on the random side. Let’s break it down, shall we? Sponsored by William Hill, the goal of the competition is for each of the four players (Cesc Fabregas, Marcos Alonso, Asmir Begovic, and Eduardo) to fly a drone around an obstacle course and into a goal which acts as the finish line. But there’s a catch! They must do all of this while their teammates hurl and strike footballs at their drones.
Only two of the four were able to completely finish the course. Somehow, Cesc used his magical powers and took a direct hit from a football and still kept his drone in the air to finish with a time of 1:10. After Eduardo met the same tragic fate as Alonso did with a DNF, Begovic made it very interesting by avoiding all projectiles but amazingly coming in one second slower than Cesc. Winner and drone racing champion of the universe: Cesc Fabregas.
