David Luiz had won many things in his Chelsea career already the first time around, including a Champions League, a Europa League, and an FA Cup trophy, but a Premier League title had eluded him until yesterday.
"When I decided to return [to Chelsea], many people did not understand it. I had a good life in Paris, a good team. I won everything I could in France. They said I had taken a big risk, but I knew God had something good waiting for me."
Critics used to call him a "Playstation defender" and many had wondered if the Chelsea Board had lost their minds when they decided to bring him back in the summer after two seasons away at PSG. It was a panic buy at best, it was said, both in terms of timing and the scenes that he would cause while defending. But this was a different David Luiz, a more mature David Luiz, and combined with plenty of hard work and a bit of Conte magic, he became the unlikely solid anchor of the three-man backline.
"I worked for myself. I did not have this title, it was one that I missed. I had this dream [of winning the Premier League]. I do not work to answer people, but to enjoy wonderful moments. I am privileged. I have one of the best jobs in the world. We had an incredible season, everyone should be praised for it."

When re-joined, David Luiz talked about continuing his habit of winning trophies and completing the set with the Premier League trophy. Mission accomplished!
Chelsea, Premier League champions. Just as it should be.
