After last year’s debacle, the general expectation and initial goal for a ‘good’ season at Chelsea was a return to the top four and the Champions League. That target was revised to a ‘great’ season and a title-challenge once it became clear that Chelsea were the real deal this season. Having now achieved greatness, head coach Antonio Conte wants to make it a ‘fantastic’ season by winning the FA Cup as well.
“It has been a great season. To be a fantastic season we have to win the FA Cup.”
So, time to rest, recover and enjoy the final two league matches of the season before the big test against Arsenal two weeks from now. While there isn’t much to play for in the league other than pride, Conte is unlikely to let the players slack off too much, if at all. We must continue to concenrate, pay attention, work hard, and improve all the way through the end of the season. If Chelsea do win the last two games, we will have set a new Premier League record with 30 wins in a season, so there’s that bit of motivation as well in addition to ensuring the squad’s fitness and mentality stays on point for the Wembley final.
“It's important to enjoy this moment and celebrate this win. For me, and also for my players given last season was a bad season for the club, the players and the fans. Only one year later, to celebrate this win in a league where there are, for me, big, big teams with great players, great managers... it's great, fantastic. Now it's important to celebrate now. We have also another target to try to reach. We worked very hard to reach the final of the FA Cup, and then it's important to prepare in the right way for next season.”
