Midway through the first half of Chelsea’s 4-2 win over Southampton, N’Golo Kanté embarked on one of the better runs we’ve seen all season. It all began around midfield where he pulled off a sombrero-like move to get free on the right wing. After a nifty one-two with Cesc Fàbregas, he was at it again, driving at goal, side-stepping Oriol Romeu to send him tumbling to the ground, shrugging off Ryan Bertrand, and evading Maya Yoshida before sending in a cross that only just missed Diego Costa.

It would’ve been an amazing assist had it resulted in a goal, but it didn’t go unnoticed on social media. Twitter, especially, went wild, immediately comparing the run to something we’d see Lionel Messi do for either Barcelona or Argentina.
Even Michy Batshuayi got in on the action:
Ngolo Messi tonight almost got assist of the year great game from the lads, and 3 important points have a good night yall ❤ #CFC
