Chelsea started fast, bright, and bushy tailed and grabbed an early goal through a brilliant Willian free kick after Alderweireld took out Pedro in a move that started with new boys Aké (deputizing for the under the weather Cahill) and Batshuayi (deputizing for the dropped Costa).
Spurs were having a fair bit of trouble handling the speed of Pedro and Willian, and Batshuayi was sticking to his target man task very well, knocking balls down for runners to get onto. But then Spurs scored — Harry Kane conjuring up a ridiculously stooping header on a cross that he had no right to redirect on goal — and Chelsea suddenly were second best as Spurs settled into a bit more controlled possession.
Chelsea stuck to their task during this period and then took the lead again after Victor Moses won a penalty against surprise Spurs left back Son Heung-min. With Hazard on the bench (Conte's big lineup surprise!), Willian stepped up to dispatch it with ease. Two goals for the Man Who Hates Tottenham.
Hugo Lloris then got away with a deliberate hand ball outside of his area. Needed a video referee for that call.
Marcos Alonso then got himself needlessly booked just before the half-time whistle, but otherwise so far so good. Not sure the goals are done however, so hopefully the boys in blue can grab at least one more.
COME ON, CHELSEA!
