Courtois out, Begovic in for Manchester United clash

An ankle injury has knocked Thibaut Courtois out of Chelsea’s match at Old Trafford

Until today, Thibaut Courtois had started every match of Chelea’s so-far successful Premier League campaign. Against Manchester United, probably the biggest hurdle left in the Blues’ run-in, it’ll be Asmir Begovic instead. According to Kristof Terreur, Courtois suffered an ankle injury in training and has not made the trip to Old Trafford.

Begovic was one of the few Chelsea players to come out of the first half of the 2015/16 season without too much shame, but thanks to Courtois’ excellent form (and lack of red cards) this season has only really ever had a chance to start during cup matches. Hopefully he can impress against United, who are looking for revenge after two defeats already this season.

Terreur claims that the Blues are hoping Courtois is back for our upcoming FA Cup semifinal against Tottenham Hotspur. Despite the glut of goals he’s been conceding recently, I think most of us can agree we’re a much stronger team when the big Belgian is fit.
