Pedro gets Spain national team reward for sparkling Chelsea form

Chelsea winger Pedro has been recalled to the Spanish national team for the first time since Euro 2016 when he barely played a part and was not too happy about it.

Vicente Del Bosque has since been replaced by Julen Lopetegui, but it’s taken the new coach almost a year to issue a call for the former Barcelona star. Given Pedro’s tremendous form for Chelsea, it’s the least he deserves.

Alongside Pedro, teammates Diego Costa and César Azpilicueta were called-up as well, but Cesc Fàbregas and Marcos Alonso were left out.

“Marcos Alonso is playing very well at Chelsea with a different system. We've watched him but we've decided on (Nacho) Monreal and Jordi Alba.”

“It's true that Cesc is playing more minutes in his team and it's true that we've also thought about his inclusion, we had Cesc in our minds.”

“It's not easy to finalise the list, there are a lot of players on the pre-list which we like, but in the end we've finalised the squad with the players we feel have to have more presence with us. But we don't choose some and discard others because it is an ongoing thing.”

When you have as much talent available to you as Spain, some players are bound to be left out.

Pedro & Co will be taking on Israel and France in the upcoming international break.
