David Luiz puts in extra training ground work on Chelsea’s day off

David Luiz has been dealing with a knee injury ever since Sergio Agüero’s latest five-second angry and while it looked to be getting a few weeks ago, he seemed to re-injure it during the 1-1 draw at Anfield at the end of January. He’s since winced and warrior’d his way through two games, the win over Arsenal and the draw at Burnely, before getting the weekend off against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the FA Cup.

But a weekend off does not just mean fun and games. Here he is putting in the extra recovery work on Sunday at Cobham — just like Diego Costa did after his back injury last month. Sure, it’s just a photo without much context, but hopefully it does mean some good news about the center back’s availability for next weekend.

The official line from Chelsea is that David Luiz’s knee is being “managed” but it’s certainly not an ideal situation. While he’s performed admirably while being limited by it, the hope is that during these two weeks between the Burnley match and the Swansea City match coming up on Saturday, he can recover sufficiently enough to get him through the end of the season.
